Scholarship 2013 - South Africa & Tanzania Joint Science and Technology Research Programme

Tanzanian studentsApplications are invited for research project for South African and Tanzanian students. The research programme is offered in health, ICT, paleontology, nano material, agricultural value addition and animal embryo transplant. The proposal supports researchers from universities, universities of technology, science councils and public research institutes on an equal and mutually beneficial basis. Evaluation will be done on the basis of Scientific and technical merit, Impact on bilateral science and technology relations etc.

-The Tanzanian and SA applicant must be employed at a recognized institution of higher education or research institution such as a university, university of technology or science council in South Africa /Tanzania.

Scholarship Open for Students of Following Countries: South African and Tanzanian students can apply for this scholarship.

Scholarship Description: In April 2011 an agreement on collaboration in Science and Technology between the governments of South Africa and Tanzania was signed.  Towards implementation of the signed agreement, the two countries developed a Programme of Cooperation.  The PoC sought to facilitate scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries by supporting researchers from universities, universities of technology, science councils and public research institutes on an equal and mutually beneficial basis. Under the terms of PoC, Joint research project proposals shall be submitted to the relevant authorities in both countries for evaluation, being the Commission for Science and Technology in Tanzania and the National Research Foundation in South Africa (NRF).

Duration of awards: Scholarship is awarded for 2 years.

What does it cover?: The South African students will be allowed to apply R1,00,000  per year over 2 years with the total not exceeding R2,00,000 per project. The Tanzanian students should apply for equivalent amount in their own currency and submit to relevant authorities of their countries.
