Google is supporting Anita Borg memorial scholarships for international female students who are studying their bachelor’s, master’s or PhD programs at a university in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, 2013/14

Google manages to collect information throughout the world and makes it easily accessible and useful for all people worldwide. Google is founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, who met at Stanford University in 1995.

Within a year, they created a search engine and named it BackRub, that used links to separate WebPages from one another. Afterwards they changed it from BackRub to Google on the word “googol,” which is mathematically meant for a “1 followed by 100 zeros”. Google was officially built in 1998 by receiving a cheque worth $100,000, Sun co-founder Andy Bechtolsheim to that entity. At Google, people are always forming new technologies to help its’ users find and use information.

Google is offering ‘Anita Borg Memorial Scholarships: Europe, the Middle East and Africa’ for talented female students enrolled in universities in above mentioned eligible regions. The scholarship is created to advance the skills of female students in computing and technology, and transform them to be active role models and leaders.

Anita Borg, Ph.D. (1949-2003) was a famous computer scientist. She believed that all aspects of our lives whether economic, political, social or personal are affected by technology. She dedicated her life to make sure that technology leaves a positive impact on mankind. To implement her opinion she introduced ‘Institute for Women and Technology’. Presently, this institute takes her name and actions forward and is known as “The Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology”.

Course Level The scholarships are offered for Bachelors, Masters or PhD programs.
Open for Following Countries The scholarships are open to students of all countries (except residents of embargoed countries), who are enrolled at universities in Europe, the Middle East, or Africa.
To be Eligible Applicants:
1. Must be enrolled in a Bachelors, Masters or PhD programs (or equivalent) in 2013/2014.
2. Should be enrolled at a university in Europe, the Middle East, or Africa irrespective of their nationality (except residents of embargoed countries).
3. Are majoring in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Informatics, or a closely related technical field.
4. Should have been awarded first class honours degree .
Scholarship Overview Google is presenting a number of ‘Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarships’ for female students who are not selected based on their citizenships but must be enrolled at any university located in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Students must a student pursuing their bachelors, masters or PhD degree coursework in eligible fields. Each Scholar will be awarded a sum of €7,000 (or equivalent).
