Summer School: Ethnic and religious minoriotes and majorities - for a democratic intercultural dialogue at the European Union Eastern Border, Oradea, Romania, 02-08 July 2012‏

ETHNIC AND RELIGIOUS MINORITIES AND MAJORITIES - FOR A DEMOCRATIC INTERCULTURAL DIALOGUE AT THE EUROPEAN UNION EASTERN BORDER, ce se va desfăsura în Transilvania pe traseul Oradea - Cluj-Napoca - Targu Mures - Sighisoara - Brasov - Bran - Predeal - Sinaia - Sibiu - Deva - Stana de Vale - Oradea (Romania), 02-08 July 2012.

Description: This Summer School is organized by the Institute for Euroregional Studies Oradea-Debrecen, with the support of the European Commission through the Jean Monnet Programme. For seven days, participants will be offered both theoretical courses and interactive debates on issues regarding the relations between majority and minority, and field applications in the Transylvanian area. The activities will include visits to settlements and regions with wide ethno-religious diversity, and also to some traditional Romanian, Hungarian, German or Roma communities. The Summer School has on its programme visits to specific Transylvanian objects of cultural heritage [from churches and monasteries of wood, and stone, to the fortresses (Sighisoara, Râşnov, Deva), castles, palaces (Bran Castle, Peleş - The Romanian Kings' Castle of Sinaia, but also to touristic sites like the Palace of the "Roma International King" Cioaba of Sibiu), the museum of Transylvanian villages (ASTRA Folk Civilisation Museum in Sibiu), and so on]. A particular emphasis is placed on: capturing the relations between the Romanian/Orthodox majority and the minority communities; the daily life of these communities; the specificity of traditional Transylvanian mountain and plain villages of all ethnic groups in Transylvania.  

The Summer School fee is 150 ? (covering for all organizing expenses and related materials, equipment, courses, hotel, meals and transport incurred during the summer school). Please note that the transport expenses to and from the summer school will be covered by the participants.

The official languages of the activities will be English and Romanian (we will provide simultaneous interpretation).

The deadline for application form is 01 May 2012.
